The 10 BEST spots for breakfast in Bangkok

Looking for a totally drool-worthy breakfast in Bangkok?

Umm, of course, you are! I mean, who doesn’t want to embrace their inner gluttonous fool and stuff their face full of food first thing in the morning?

I know I do since I like to eat ALL the feelings!

Besides, I have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

And added bonus?

Calories definitely don’t count on vacation. Therefore, you can stuff yourself silly and not gain a pound, or a kilogram as the case may be.

Amazing huh?

If only my food-related delusions of grandeur were actually based on reality (quietly sobs in the corner at this realization after having brunch in Bangkok)!

But, all kidding aside:

You really are gonna need a hearty breakfast before you get out there and experience all the wicked fun things to do in Bangkok.

See:

You really are just eating so that you’ll have enough energy to get through your day (wink, wink).

The fact that this breakfast consists of a giant pile of carbs that are drizzled with chocolate and doused with whipped cream is something that no one else needs to know.

Shh, it’ll be our little secret.

But enough chit chat because my stomach’s a rumblin; and I’m ready to swan dive into this list of EPIC restaurants in Bangkok that serve delicious, carb-laden breakfasts of wonder.

So:

If you’re ready to join me, then grab a moist towelette (trust me, you’re gonna need it) because we’re about to journey through the sheer, gastronomic glory that is the best breakfast in Bangkok.

Trust me, it’s gonna be good.

Because honestly? Eating is probably one of my favorite things to do in the world.

And yes:

I REALLY am quite good at it (insert wink emoji here).

***Not sure where to stay in Bangkok? I stayed at the Patumwan House and enjoyed it. I mean, is it the greatest hotel in Bangkok? No, but for just $40 per night, you get a comfy bed, a warm shower, and a spacious room that includes a small kitchenette (Perfect for storing all my snacks! HOORAY). Plus, this hotel is really well located and within walking distance of a ferry stop and Ratchathewi station, which sits along the Sukhumvit Line of the BTS. However, if you’re looking for something a bit swankier, then you can always try 103- Bed and Brews. Located right on the edge of Bangkok’s Chinatown, this small, exquisitely restored, 100-year-old building has just six large rooms that start at $40 per night. All of the rooms here are fully refurbished and include balconies, teak wood floors, and luxurious, antique furniture. What, still haven’t found the perfect place to stay in Bangkok? Then try the Prince Heritage Theatre Stay? I know the name is a bit weird but this hotel is close to the river (and Chinatown) and has rooms that start at just $32 per night. Set inside a fully refurbished, historic, Art Deco style cinema, this hotel has four spacious suites, as well as several, well-appointed dorm rooms that are perfect for anyone traveling to Bangkok on a budget.***

1. Cafe Au Lait

In addition to its inspiring decor, Cafe Au Lait also offers an amazing breakfast in Bangkok.
In addition to its inspiring decor, Cafe Au Lait also offers an amazing breakfast in Bangkok.

Real talk?

Yeah, you probably won’t find Cafe Au Lait on any other “best breakfast in Bangkok” list.

Why?

Probably because this quaint AF eatery sits along a totally random street in Bangkok that most people just never get to.

But not you since you’re reading this post right now, you lucky dog you!

Now:

In addition to chic, hipster inspired decor (with fun coffee quotes plastered on the wall), this cafe also serves up some wicked awesome food and coffee.

Sure:

I wanted to order one of the heartier breakfast entrees on their menu, but sadly, none of the dishes were veggie-friendly.

That’s why:

I stuck with a tried and true classic, a croissant with a latte. And I’m so glad I did because I basically had to stop myself from licking the plate clean.

No, seriously!

The croissant was warm, buttery, flakey, and melt in your mouth delicious. I honestly would have ordered a second one if I actually didn’t care what people think.

But sadly:

I tend to let societal norms get in the way of my gastronomic bliss. Sigh.

PS:

This chic little cafe is right down the street from the Jim Thompson House. Therefore, you can totally stop here before you visit that awesome Bangkok attraction (I promise, it really is worth a visit).

Address: Khwaeng Thanon Phetchaburi, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400

Nearest BTS Station: Ratchathewi

2. BKK Bagel Bakery

The aptly named, "Veggie Monger" sandwich from BKK Bagel Bakery in Bangkok.
The aptly named, “Veggie Monger” sandwich from BKK Bagel Bakery in Bangkok.

Okay:

BKK Bagel Bakery definitely won’t be winning any awards for “insta awesome decor” any time soon.

But honestly, who cares?

I mean, you’re not really here for the ambiance anyway. You’re here for one thing and one thing only…THE BAGELS.

Now:

As an NYC, born and raised, bagel snob to the core, I’ll be the first one to admit that I am insanely picky about my bagels.

So:

If I’m brutally honest, I’d have to say that no, these bagels definitely aren’t as good as NYC bagels.

But, that being said:

My bagel standards are insanely high and ridiculously hard to meet.

That’s why:

Even though these bagels aren’t as good as the ones in NYC, they’re pretty dang close, and definitely tasty since I finished mine, no problem.

Therefore:

If you find yourself in Bangkok with a killer craving for an NYC-style bagel, then definitely beeline it here.

Now:

During my visit, I tried the Veggie Monger Sandwich (Bagel, hummus, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, avocado, and tomatoes). And while it was good, it definitely wasn’t great.

I mean:

Not only was the avocado rock hard (aka inedible), but the whole thing basically felt like a giant salad on a bagel.

So:

If you do decide to drop by for breakfast, definitely skip the sandwich and get a classic, bagel with cream cheese instead.

And while you’re at it:

Forego the coffee too. It was okay but nothing swoon-worthy for sure.

Address: 518/3 Phloen Chit Rd, แขวงลุมพินี Khet Pathum Wan, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10330

Nearest BTS Station: Chit Lom

3. Kopi Hya Tai Kee

The delicious veggie, Pad Kra Praow that you'll find at Kopi Hya Tai Kee.
The delicious veggie, Pad Kra Praow that you’ll find at Kopi Hya Tai Kee.

Words cannot express how much I love this place since the food here really is THAT good.

But:

That kind of makes sense when you realize that this traditional, Thai-style, no-frills cafe has been around for over 60 years.

And with food this good, who needs frills?

I mean, I was only too happy to order and pick my food up from the counter.

Because real talk? I can’t eat ambiance.

But, I can devour this delicious, Thai style, gastronomic awesomeness.

Plus:

Not only is the food here CHEAP, but they also have a veggie-friendly menu that is filled with authentic (ish since most traditional Thai food does contain either meat or seafood), Thai dishes that are 100% meat-free.

Me?

I ordered the veggie, Pad Kra Praow and have ZERO regrets about it since this dish consists of white rice that is topped with fuffy, deep-fried egg, that is then doused in a deliciously wonderful mix of spicy, stir-fried vegetables.

Yeah, seriously delicious with a capital D.

Address: Siri Phong Rd, Khwaeng Samran Rat, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10200

Nearest Ferry Station: Phanfa Bridge

4. D’ark Coffee

D'ark Coffee is the perfect place for any hipsters in training out there to grab a dreamy latte and a delicious breakfast in Bangkok.
D’ark Coffee is the perfect place for any hipsters in training out there to grab a dreamy latte and a delicious breakfast in Bangkok.

Where my wannabe hipsters at?

Because I’d like you to meet your latest and greatest, breakfast obsession in Bangkok, D’ark Coffee.

Way more than a simple coffee shop (although you can get a wicked awesome coffee to go here):

This place perfectly pairs exquisite, industrial-style, super plush, decor with divinely delicious breakfast entrees, like Manama Eggs.

I mean:

Not only was this dish served to me with a warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside roll, but the scrambled eggs were exquisitely cooked and still slightly liquidy, creating a rich and creamy texture that perfectly complimented the chopped avocado, tomato, pepper, onion, and chili sauce in my entree.

Added bonus?

Because this place caters to a slightly more Millennial era clientele, there are a plethora of vegan and vegetarian dishes on their expansive menu, like the Riceberry Quinoa Bowl (Yeah, it definitely doesn’t get any more Millennial than that).

So:

All my plant lovin’ homies out there will definitely have a ton of different options to choose from.

The only slight downside?

This place is kind of expensive. Therefore, a breakfast entree and latte will easily cost you upwards of $15 per person,

And while that’s cheap by NYC standards, it definitely a bit steep for Bangkok.

Therefore:

If you do decide to stop by, be prepared to pay for the culinary awesomeness that lies within.

PSST:

Not surprisingly, this place is uber popular. Therefore, if you can, try and visit right when they open at 7:00 am, especially during the weekend. Otherwise, go later in the day before you explore Bangkok in the evening.

Address: 48/1 Soi Sukhumvit 49, Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Khet Watthana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110

Nearest BTS Station: Thong Lo (Yes, it’s about a 15-minute walk from the station but scout’s honor, this place is totally worth the walk)

5. Brocolli Revolution

The botanical bliss of Broccoli Revolution in Bangkok.
The botanical bliss of Broccolli Revolution in Bangkok.

Do you enjoy broccoli about as much as you enjoy life?

Okay, totally kidding.

Their love of broccoli at Brocolli Revolution is not THAT intense.

But:

This is a trendy, new eatery that focuses on creating delicious, healthy, plant-based foods that both you and your vegan/vegetarian friends will absolutely adore.

Now:

I’m not gonna lie, I definitely didn’t come here for breakfast.

WOMP, WOMP, WOMP.

I know, I know. That makes me a horrible blogger. Totally rotten to the core.

However:

I did visit during lunch and thought that their vegetarian red curry with tempeh was nom-erfic (AKA lick your plate good).

Sure:

It could have been a bit spicier, but I still thought it was fabulously flavorful and had zero problems inhaling everything on my plate.

Added perk?

The decor here is top-notch since there are plants EVERYWHERE, along with elegant, brick walls and large, floor to ceiling windows that let in ample amounts of light.

Yup:

A truly warm and welcoming aesthetic that makes you want to grab your laptop and spend the day here.

Plus:

They also have delicious, self-service, apple or orange infused water that is a delightfully refreshing change from bland old bottled water.

So:

Prepare to embrace your inner, plant loving fool and enjoy the yumminess within.

Address: 899 Sukhumvit Road, Klong-Nua, Vaddhana, Bangkok 10110

Nearest BTS Station: Thong Lo

6. Landhaus Bakery

The bonanza of baked goods that you'll find at Landhaus Bakery in Bangkok.
The bonanza of baked goods that you’ll find at Landhaus Bakery in Bangkok.

Okay:

Before you roll up into this cafe/bakery/glorified, carbohydrate heaven, you should be warned.

Because yes:

This divine purveyor of baked goods can be a bit tricky to find since the signage isn’t very pronounced and this place is tucked ALL the way at the end of what looks like someone’s private driveway.

However:

Rest easy because I swear that this amazing spot for breakfast in Bangkok is exactly where Google says it is (And if you have a hard time finding it, don’t worry because you are not the only one. It took me at least two tries before I found this place).

But:

Once you do find this quaint, not so little eatery (go to the second floor since there’s hardly anyone there), you’ll be treated to a veritable buffet of German/Austrian baked goods that include everything from croissants to danishes to pretzels to fresh baked breads.

And I’m not exaggerating about the buffet.

Because on the ground floor of this rustic, country style bakery is an entire table that is packed with baked goods that stretch out almost as far as the eye can see (just the way I like it).

So:

Feel free to help yourself. However, definitely remeber that you do actually have to PAY for each pastry you take since this is not in fact an actual buffet.

However:

If you’re looking for something a bit heartier than a pastry, not to worry because each little wooden table also has a menu that is hidden within a card that has “Landhaus Bakery” printed on the outside.

So:

Just unwrap the card and you’ll find a variety of different sandwiches, yogurts, soups and hot/cold beverages that you can choose from.

Me?

I ordered the open pesto, which was a single piece of toasted bread that was also topped with pesto, tomato, and fresh feta cheese.

And my verdict?

So yummy that I actually bought a loaf of bread to take home with me. I also fully intend on coming back so that I can try more items from their menu.

So:

Grab the first pair of elastic waist pants that you can find and prepare to swan dive into this blissful bonaza of fine baked goods.

Trust me, you will not regret it.

Address: soi5, 18 phaholyotin, Samsen Nai, Phaya Thai, Bangkok 1040

Nearest BTS Station: Ari

7. On Luk Yun

My breakfast at On Luk Yun consisted of soft boiled egg, toast with butter, and tea. just use the fork to dip the toast into the egg. And I promise it's way more delicious than it sounds.
My breakfast at On Luk Yun consisted of soft boiled egg, toast with butter, and tea. just use the fork to dip the toast into the egg. And I promise it’s way more delicious than it sounds.

So while this restaurant definitely won’t be winning any beauty contestants any time soon:

The gritty, less than posh, hole in the wall vibe of this popular, local eatery kind of works and helps creates an almost down home feel here.

Because let’s be real:

This is the Thai equivalent of an American diner, greasy spoon, whatever you want to call it.

Therefore:

If you’re looking for a fancy, smancy place that has a hundred different varieties of smashed avocado tooast on their menu, then I suggest you go elsewhere for breakfast in Bangkok.

But:

If you;re in search of a delicious, reasonably priced, authentic breakfast experience in bangkok, then this is the place you’ve been dreaming of.

Sure:

The menu isn’t exstesive, or unique, and consists only of slight variations on iconic, breakfast staples like toast with butter, eggs, ham, suasage, bacon, tea, and coffee.

However:

Everything served here is done extremely well and is totally delicious, minus the meat since I definitely didn’t try that.

Added bonus?

The service is wicked fast, so if you wanna hit the Grand Palace before all the tourists descend on the place, like a swarm of locusts, then definitely pay this place a visit before you go.

Because not only is this eatery just a twenty minute walk from the Grand Palace, but service here starts at some ungodly hour like 5:00 am, which is when they open.

And while you won’t EVER find me here at that hour:

You definitely might see me stuffing my face here at around 7:45 am, right before I make a mad dash for the Grand Palace, which opens at 8:30 am (HINT, HINT: Visit the Grand Palace RIGHT when it opens to avoid the crowds)

Address: 72 Charoen Krung Rd, Khwaeng Wang Burapha Phirom, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10200

Nearest Ferry Station: Phanfa Bridge

8. Rue de Mansri

The delicious almond croissant and latte that I inhaled at Rue de Mansri.
The delicious almond croissant and latte that I inhaled at Rue de Mansri.

Honestly:

It was my food loving, blogger born duty to put this cozy, vintage style eatery on this list.

Why, you may rightly wonder?

Well, not only is the decor here quaint AF (This antique style cafe actually sits inside a renovated, 130 year old tram station that is now outfitted with vintage knick knacks, individual sized, circular, wooden tables, uber comfy chairs that will make you NEVER want to leave, fresh flowers, and a prominent, antique style, turqoise door), but the baked goods here are next level epic!

I mean:

Sure, you can get a few savory items, like lasanga or chicken curry, but seriously, why would you when their almond croissants are off the chart level good?

Which makes sense since the owners of this cafe actually import their dough from Chiang Mai’s ever popular, Nana Jungle, so that they can make all of their pastries fresh, on the daily.

Yup:

Any eatery that imports their dough directly from Chiang Mai is my kind of place.

And, if you want a little, extra awesome in your life:

Just chase that croissant of divinty with a delicious, iced Marocchino (a slightly indulgent mix of chocolate, milk, and espresso) and you’ll be ready to tackle the Golden Mount in no time (a popular tourist attraction that is right down the street).

PS:

If you can’t find a seat inside this small cafe, you can also go in search of additional seating on the slightly hidden, second floor.

Oh, one more thing!

The door you use to enter the cafe is also a little weird and has a hinge in the middle that make the door go half way in and half way out at the same time. So, be prepared to tackle this type of mechanical mayhem.

Address: 417 Bamrung Mueang Rd, Khwaeng Ban Bat, Khet Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10100

Nearest Ferry Station: Phanfa Bridge

9. Breakfast Story

The quirky decor that you'll find at Bangkok's ever trendy, Breakfast Story.
The quirky decor that you’ll find at Bangkok’s ever trendy, Breakfast Story.

Once you get over the fact that you have to crawl through a totally closed bar just to get to this quirky little eatery on the second floor, you’ll be able to fully embrace the breakfast awesomeness that lies within.

To properly do so:

Just grab a menu from one of the containers that sit along the wall on your right, order your food at the counter, and pay at the end.

Yup, it really is that simple.

And while I was a little taken aback that they only serve iced, not hot lattes, (Sorry, but I thought that was totally weird. Don’t you need to create a latte to make an iced latte?), I quickly got over it when I heard TLC’s song Waterfalls blaring on the radio, found a plush Simon doll from Alvin and the Chipmunks on my table, and saw a sign on the wall that casually reminded me to, “Practice safe lunch and use condiments”.

Yes, folks, that was the exact moment when I knew that these were MY people.

But, news flash, it only got better from here.

See, I thought I had ordered a standard AF, avocado toast with a poached egg and side salad.

However, what I actually got was a dish that exponentially elevated avocado toast to an entirely new stratosphere.

I mean:

Not only was my salad slathered with this divine, sesame dressing, but my avocado toast was actually this delicious, curry egg salad, with fresh avocado, that was sandwiched in between two toasted, pieces of brioche bread that was slathered with butter.

Not surprisingly:

I ate the whole thing and basically died and went to heaven, right on the spot.

So:

If you need to fuel up somewhere before you tackle an epic day of sightseeing in Bangkok, then look no further than Breakfast Story.

And yes:

They do indeed serve breakfast all day, all the way until 11:00 pm at night.

Address: 593/27 Sukhumvit Road, 2nd Floor, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110

Nearest BTS Station: Phrom Phong

10. Chu

The obscenely healthy, egg white fritata that I ordered from Chu's in Bangkok.
The obscenely healthy, egg white fritata that I ordered from Chu’s in Bangkok.

Nestled inside Exchange Tower Mall is Chu, the chocolate bar that you never expected to find on this list of top breakfast spots in Bangkok.

And while Chu is indeed known for their decadent churros and hot chocolate:

This place really does have so much more to offer guests than just chocolate.

That being said:

You are definitely not allowed to leave without getting a cup of their rich, creamy, dark hot chocolate.

Sorry, but it is your gastronomic duty.

Now, if going into diabetic shock is not the way you want to start your day, then you’re in luck because Chu has a variety of savory, breakfast entrees for you to choose from.

And while I got the ridiculously healthy, egg white frittata, which once again reminded me of why I only eat whole eggs:

There are a variety of other slightly more delicious, less obscenely healthy, breakfast related entrees on the menu, like Eggs Benedict with bacon, pancakes, Scrambled Eggs with cherry tomato salsa and chorizo, and more.

So:

Start your day off right at Chu’s and order an entree that will immediately give all of your Instagram followers total food envy.

Because clearly, THAT’s what really matters in life (totally joking BTW).

Address: Soi Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra 3, Khwaeng Silom, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500

Nearest BTS Station: Asok

There you have it my faithful readers, my top ten picks for the best breakfast in Bangkok.

And if I have just one piece of advice for your trip to Bangkok, it’s to grab some super stretchy pants and visit ALL the breakfast places on this list.

Okay, maybe not all of these breakfast joints since I know that is kind of realistic, unless of course, you’re a total coffee/cafe addict like me!

But seriously, dine at any one of amazing places, and I promise that you WILL not regret it.

Plus, your tummy will totally thank you, so its a win win really.

So go forth, conquer these fine breakfast establishments, and be happy, because remember, calories don’t count when you’re in another country!

Yup, true story!
