30 Amazing and Romantic Things to do in NYC

Hello my wonderful, beautiful, beyond gorgeous reader, and welcome to this ridiculously comprehensive post about 30 of the most romantic things to do in NYC.

Because while my knowledge of romance may be woefully lacking (Yeah when someone helps me with my groceries, I consider that romantic. I also hate overt romantic gestures so no one cue the violins as we continue on with this post. And no flash mobs either). my info about NYC is not! That’s why this is the perfect post for you if you’re missing NYC travel

Yup, like I remind you all too often, I’m a super savvy, NYC local who has lived in the city that never sleeps for well over twenty years. As such, I know more than a thing or two about where to go and what to do when you want to have a hot and heavy night out on the town with that super snazzy human that you just met on Bumble.

Or Okay Cupid or Plenty of Fish. Seriously, whatever dating app works for you is totally fine by me.

But hopefully, no first date horror stories are in your future. Because as you probably already guessed, we’re about to oh-so-adeptly cannonball into this post about 30 of the most romantic places in NYC. Vibrant, enchanting, and altogether alluring attractions that will definitely score you a second date…at the very least.

Or, keep you laughing together for years to come if you’re in a happy and healthy, totally committed relationship! In which case, hi, can I be you? Because I feel like dating apps are totally the devil’s plaything.

However, that’s a tragic comedy of errors for another post. Besides, you’re a busy homo sapien who is ready to feast their eyes on my top picks for 30 of the most romantic places in New York City.

So dig in, be happy, and savor all of the romantic inspo that I know you’re craving. I mean, you probably would NOT be reading this post right now if that weren’t the case. Am I right? Of course I am! So, onwards, to a post that is brimming over with lame jokes and even lamer puns!

1. Hang Out in Central Park

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC to take a picturesque walk through Central Park.

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC to take a picturesque walk through Central Park.

Taking a stroll through or having a picnic in central park is probably one of the single most romantic things to do in NYC, especially since this beautiful park is easily one of my favorite fall travel destinations and should be at the top of everyone’s NYC bucket list

I know it might seem cliche AF but trust me on this, these activities are popular for a reason. Especially since Central Park is Grand Canyon level HUGE – making it beyond easy to find a nice secluded spot where you can sit and stare adoringly into each other’s eyes… Or have a mini food fight. Whatever scenario more accurately reflects your couple’s style.

Plus, I mean really, who doesn’t love a peaceful, romantic stroll through a beautiful park on a gorgeous sunny day?

I know I do!  Particularly when I’m holding hands with the one I love and reciting poetic, beyond lyrical sonnets about where I want to travel next. Because yes, I really do love travel THAT much.

However, If you’re an infinitely more active human than me, then try renting a bike for the day and riding through Central Park. Or, you could always spend the day doing a fun scavenger hunt in the park.

Alternatively, mosey on over to the lake and rent a boat. Sure, it can be a bit tiring. But, it’s still lots of fun getting hot and sweaty together as you row through the water.

And FYI, individual boats can be rented for $15 per hour from the Loeb Boathouse (which incidentally is itself a great romantic spot for lunch or brunch if picnicking isn’t your thing).

Or, go for the economic glory and rent a Gondola. This way, you can cuddle up close and fool yourself into thinking that you’re actually in Italy for a hot minute.

Because really? What’s more romantic than Italy? Yeah, nothing, that’s what.

Plus, this stellar, Central Park related activity has the added benefit of giving you awesome NYC skyline views. And ducks! Because, DUH, you can’t forget about the ducks.

Wait, are ducks even romantic? Am I watching the wrong romcoms? Probably, but that still doesn’t change the fact that Central Park is an iconic romantic spot in NYC.

Address: Central Park, New York City, NY (yup, this really is the address)

Hours: Open daily 6:00 am to 1:00 am

Price: Free Entry ($15 for a boat ride, $45 for Gondolas)

How to get there: Take the A, B or C train to 72nd, 81st, 86th, 103rd or 110th Street Station. Also accessible by the 1 or 2 train to 59th Street Station, 2 or 3 train to 110th Street Station or N, R, W trains to 5th Avenue Station (did I mention it’s huge?).

2. Take a Romantic, Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride Through Central Park

Take a charming, horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park.

Take a charming, horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park.

Okay, okay, I promise this isn’t just going to be a‘”Romantic Things to do in NYC” post…Central Park Edition’.

But seriously, can you blame me for mentioning Central Park more than once? I mean, it is one of the most stunning parks in the entire world.

So yeah, it’s kind of hard to beat a romantic carriage ride through the oasis of greenery that is now more commonly known as Central Park.

Now, I know $290 seems like a steep price for a frolic through the park, but come on, hear me out! I mean, it is a special occasion and it really isn’t that much more expensive than a nice dinner and tickets to see a Broadway show.

Plus, added bonus? The price actually includes up to four people. So, if you know another couple who wants to live it up and join you on a romantic carriage ride through the city, then the cost actually works out to a slightly more reasonable, $75 per person.

Wait. “What does it include?” I hear you asking.

Well, you get 50 minutes in a private horse-drawn carriage and are accompanied by a knowledgable, friendly guide who is 100% invested in making this experience extra special for you.

The ride also comes with a bottle of champagne, a bucket of roses, and the ability to stop at several spots (of your choosing) along the way. You know, so that you can get a good view, Instagram it up (the guides are always happy to take couples photos), and maybe even do something that is once in a lifetime special, with a ring perhaps *hint hint*.

Interested? Well, if you’re emphatically nodding your head yes then can book this special romantic couple’s experience here.

And for any other non-drinkers out there, this alternate carriage ride comes sans flowers and champagne. It also costs just $159 for four people and might be the perfect option for you if you’re planning a bit of romance on a budget.

Hey, no judgment here. We’ve all been there and the cash flow struggle is 100% real.

Address: Meet in front of the José Julián Martí Statue on the corner of 59th Street and 6th Avenue

Hours: Available daily between 12:00 am and 11:00 pm

Price: $289 for up to 4 people for a 50-minute ride.

How to get there: If coming from outside of Central Park, the easiest thing to do is to take the N, R, or W train to 5th Avenue Station

3. Go on a Junk Food Tour (Yee to the Haw. My FAVE kind of tour)

Enjoy this unicorn-shaped cupcake during your cupcake tour of NYC.

Enjoy this unicorn-shaped cupcake during your cupcake tour of NYC.

Is there truly anything more romantic than being told you’re going on a cupcake tour of Greenwich? Or a tour of the best donut spots in NYC?

Because If you’re a hardcore foodie like me, then the answer is 100% no. That’s why, food tours are definitely the perfect date night idea if you’re planning a romantic, weekend getaway to NYC.

Sure, some of the best food tours in NYC often do include other people, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it romantic by holding hands or occasionally feeding each other decadently delicious slivers of freshly baked cupcakes.

Or, you could always act like me, be totally low key about it, and just try to stab anyone who even looks like they’re about to touch your food.

Yup, I’m nothing if not romantic. Because truth be told? I never really got down with the whole “another human feeding me” thing. Like thanks but I’m not three and can totally feed myself.

But I digress. Because even though I would never share my cupcake with anyone, I’ve heard this is a thing that some couples do. So, go for it if that’s your jam.

And although I haven’t been on this donut tour myself, I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from friends and fellow donut lovers. However, I HAVE been on the cupcake tour and it is a MUST.

Because this tour makes stops at a grand total of six different Greenwich cupcake establishments, all of which you might, uh, accidentally wander into at a later date. You also get to taste a bunch of free, uber-delicious treats along the way, which is why you definitely won’t leave hungry.

But, I know that not everyone out there is a total sugar addict like me. So, if you don’t have a saber tooth tiger size sweet tooth but are still looking for one of the more romantic things to do in NYC, then check out some of these awesome NYC food tours right here. Because this list really does have a little bit of everything, from a crime food tour to a NYC sustainable eats tours. Oh, yeah, and cupcakes. Lots of cupcakes.

However, If a tour doesn’t really interest you and you totally wanna DIY it up, then check out some of my favorite dessert places in NYC for some more divine, sugary-laden inspo for your next impromptu dessert tour through NYC.

Address: Dependent on tour, they will give you a meeting point

Hours: Check tour availability for start times

Price: Between $35 – $50 per person

How to get there: Also dependent on the tour, and they will give you instructions for public transport.

4. Take a Greenwich Village Ghost Tour

The charming, old-world feel of the brick houses that line the quaint streets of Greenwich Village.

The charming, old-world feel of the brick houses that line the quaint streets of Greenwich Village.

While we’re on the subject of awesome romantic walking tours, here’s one for any of the slightly quirkier members of my audience

Because If you’re a fan of the horror genre or of true crime stories in general, then you know just how weirdly romantic spooky settings can be. After all, it’s a trope for a reason since watching horror films can exponentially increase the amount of cuddling that you do.

So yeah, taking an ultra-creepy ghost tour with your partner really can be the perfect date, depending on what you’re into and what type of couple you are.

And this Greenwich ghost tour is a great way to learn more about the history of the city as your super knowledgable guide takes you through this historic neighborhood – creating a truly fun and informative experience for all.

Along the way, you’ll also discover some of the city’s most haunted places. Heck, you might even find yourself getting up close and personal with your partner as the night gets darker and colder and the stories get increasingly more terrifying.

Sure, this date night du jour will set you back a solid $35 per person. But, you also have to remember that this is NYC folks. And $35 for anything here is pretty cheap. Plus, if you combine this tour with a nice home-cooked meal (or with a slice of some of the best and most authentic NYC-style pizza if you’re not the second coming of Martha Stewart), then it’s still a fairly reasonably priced evening out.

Plus, after embarking on this tour, you’ll definitely be happy to have someone around when the lights go out and when you start to hear a few things go bump in the night.

Address: Meeting point is 385, 6th Avenue, New York City, NY 10014

Hours: Runs daily at 8:00 pm, lasts 2 hours

Price: $35 per person

How to get there: Take the 1 or 2 train to Christopher Street Station

5. Walk Along the Highline

Some of the picturesque views you'll find along NYC's famous Highline.

Some of the picturesque views you’ll find along NYC’s famous Highline.

This 2009 addition to the city makes for an awesome (and cheap!) romantic day out.

See, the High Line is a 1.5 mile long converted railway track that winds through the West Side of Manhattan, And because the walkway sits at an elevated height, you’ll be treated to some of the best views in NYC along the way.

So, if you’re in desperate need of some botanical bliss, then you’ll love this walking space/oasis of greenery.

But, what really makes this one of the most romantic things to do in NYC, is the fact that this place easily caters to the needs of just about any type of couple you can imagine.

So, if you want to take a leisurely stroll where you can enjoy the views and soak in some much-needed sunshine, then this is the place to be!

Or, if you want to grab an intimate bite to eat at a quirky cafe then you can definitely do that here too at nearby Chelsea Market!

What, museums more your speed? Then visit The Whitney Art Museum, which is easily accessible from the High Line!

Plus, I mean hello, the Whitney isn’t exactly a bad place for art lovers to spend a romantic day out in the city! Just don’t expect to have the place all to yourself since it is one of the best museums in NYC!

Because although the High Line may be in a less touristy part of NYC, that doesn’t stop it from getting hella crowded when the weather is good and the sun comes out to play.

Address: Since it spans 1.5 miles, it’s easier to check here (under accessibility) for the best entry point for you.

Hours: Open daily from 12:00 am to 8:00 pm

Price: Free

How to get there: As with the address, check here (under transportation) for the easiest transportation method depending on the entry point of your choice.

6. Head to the New York Botanical Gardens

A stunning view of some of the greenhouses you'll find at the New York Botanical Gardens.

A stunning view of some of the greenhouses you’ll find at the New York Botanical Gardens.

Okay. Maybe it’s just me, but I think botanical gardens are an awesome romantic activity.

I mean, what’s more overtly romantic than strolling through a beautifully curated arboreal park full of exotic plants, well-manicured gardens, enchanting tunnels, and exquisitely constructed fountains?

Yeah, exactly nothing, that’s what. Although, I guess it really does depend on whether or not you have allergies and on what type of couple you actually are.

But, it all seems pretty dang magical to me! At least if I do say so myself. And I 100% do.

I’m also fairly certain that the majority of the world population would agree with me on this one since the New York Botanical Garden is one of the most popular wedding venues in NYC!

Plus, and I know I’m totally biased here, the New York Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire world.

Just trust me on this, I’ve seen my fair share of gardens and this one is top-notch with a capital “T”! So much so that The Brooklyn Botanical Garden even pales in comparison (see, it’s not JUST because it’s in NYC that I love it!).

So, if you are a fellow lover of nature and agree that this sounds like one of the most romantic things to do in NYC, then you can book your tickets here (includes special exhibits and a tram ride through the gardens)!

Address: 2900 Southern Blvd, The Bronx, NY 10458

Hours: Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; Closed on Mondays

Price: $22 per person

How to get there: As with the address, check here (under transportation) for the easiest transportation method depending on the entry point of your choice.

7. TV/Movie Locations Tour & Official NBC Studios Tour

Enjoy the luxe life and tour NBC Studios in Manhattan.

Enjoy the luxe life and tour NBC Studios in Manhattan.

For me, this is kind of like taking the boring beyond belief dinner, and a movie date night to the next level. You know, by just kicking it up a couple of thousand notches.

Because no joke? This EPIC tour is a total MUST for any couples out there who also happen to be big TV and film buffs! Which I’m pretty sure is everyone since most of us have spent the better part of this year trapped inside our homes, voraciously binge-watching any and every Netflix show we haven’t seen before.

And not surprisingly, NYC is the backdrop to many a famous movie and TV show! So, between classics like Manhattan and modern blockbusters like Avengers, you’ll definitely discover that at least one of your fave movies (or tv shows) has been filmed here.

In fact, NYC has been the filming location for upwards of 17,000 movie and tv productions – a fact that is straight-up mind-boggling to me!

Which is why you should obviously take this tour and see some of these amazing places.

Prepare yourself though, because this tour is split into two parts. First, your guide will take you to some of the most iconic film locations of all time. A wealth of different places that are featured in cinematic marvels like Breakfast and Tiffany’s and Wolf of Wall Street, as well as TV shows like Seinfeld, Sex and the City and, of course, Friends.

So, expect to make stops at Central Park, the CBS Building, Club 21 Bar & Lounge, Radio City Music Hall, and Rockefeller Center.

Now, for the next part f the tour, you’ll actually get to go inside the NBC studio and get some super-secret, behind the scenes info while you explore the set of SNL and the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon!

Sadly, you probably won’t get to meet any famous celebs along the way…womp, womp, womp. However, this is still a dream come true for any cinephiles out there!

So, definitely book this amazing experience now and prepare for one hella good time!

Address: The meeting point is Pulitzer Fountain (In Front of Plaza Hotel) at 59th St. and 5th Ave.

Hours: Tour is available Mondays & Saturdays; Starting times 12:00 pm or 1:30 pm, Lasts 3 hours

Price: $84 per person

How to get there: Take the N, Q or R train to 5th Avenue-59th Street Station, the F train to 57th Street Station or the 4, 5, 6 train to 59th Street-Lexington Avenue Station.

8. Sip on Some Cocktails at a Speakeasy

Sip on some hand crafted, artisanal cocktails at a local speakeasy in NYC.

Sip on some handcrafted, artisanal cocktails at a local speakeasy in NYC.

Not gonna lie – even though I’m not a drinker, one of my absolute fave unusual things to do in NYC is to hang out in a local speakeasy.

I know, totally weird but totally true. Somehow, I just love the ambiance and culture embodied by these watering holes of days gone by.

Plus, NYC has some cool AF speakeasies, including some establishments that require secret codes/ local know-how to get inside. So yeah, pretty epic indeed since this is some next level, 007 shiz..

But when it comes to speakeasies, my top pick is Please Don’t Tell. I mean, you actually enter the bar through a PHONE BOOTH that requires you to dial a secret telephone number. So yeah, need I say more? Because this is what I call awesome.

And if you’re the kind of couple who enjoys a bit of role-playing, then hanging out at Please Don’t Tell is definitely one of the most romantic things to do in NYC because you can be anyone you like!

Pretend to be enemy spies who just can’t stay away from each other, or embrace the 1920s prohibition era theme here and channel your inner Fitzergeralds. Heck, you might even snag yourself an inconspicuous corner table so that it all feels clandestine and intimate.

Because at Please Don’t Tell!, the world really is your oyster. I’ve also heard that their cocktails are out of this world. Which isn’t all that surprising considering they are created by world-class mixologist, Jim Meehan.

However, if you have the cash to burn, I mean spare, you can always try this Lonely Planet led, NYC Speakeasy tour for $89 per person (which includes three cocktails!) and learn all about NYC speakeasy culture while discovering even more awesome spots for future date nights.

In truth though, this tour really isn’t THAT outrageously expensive since you get three cocktails. Drinks that can easily cost you upwards of $16 apiece in most NYC bars.

***PSST…Before you stop by Please Don’t Tell, be sure to make a reservation, by phone, since this bar can get extremely busy and wait times can regularly exceed an hour without booking a table in advance***

Address: 113 St Mark’s Place, New York, New York, 10009

Hours: Open Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am and Friday/Saturday from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am.

Price: NOT CHEAP. So like I said, think upwards of $16 a drink.

How to Get There: Take either the 4 o6 6 train to Astor Place and walk to the bar from there.

9. Enjoy a Music Night at the Crown Finish Caves

Enjoy some delicious, aged cheese at the Crown Finish Caves in Brooklyn.

Enjoy some delicious, aged cheese at the Crown Finish Caves in Brooklyn.

This is another prohibition-era activity that is totally going to blow the socks right off of any cheese lovers in the blog-o-sphere!

So, if you’re looking for uber unique, totally romantic things to do in NYC, then I cannot recommend the Crown Finish Caves enough!

“What is the Crown Finish Caves?” I hear you rightfully wondering.

Well, today it is a cheese aging facility and licensed dairy factory that sits tucked away inside the underground tunnels in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

And while this place is all about the cheese as of right now, these tunnels actually date all the way back to the 1850s and were once used to ferment lager by the Nassau Brewery.

But what does any of this have to do with music? Well, I’m so glad you asked, you smartie you.

See, The Crown Finish Caves hosts regular music nights where local, typically Brooklyn-based artists play for your entertainment.

But, perhaps most importantly, delicious cheese focused drinks and food are also served here.Because seriously, what could be more romantic than nibbling on cheese and rocking out to great music in one of the coolest underground spaces I’ve ever been to?

Nothing, I tell you, nothing!

However, there is a downside! While this was once a somewhat secret event, it’s exploded in popularity over the last couple of years. That’s why tickets are now available through a lottery system. So, you’ll need to register online once tickets become available and then cross your fingers and toes and you get in!

But, I pinkie promise that it’s worth the wait if you do get in. Also, real talk? some of their cheeses are out of this world delicious. So, if nothing else, give them an uber-casual call and see if you can arrange a private, romantic cheese tasting sesh. Trust me, your stomach will thank you.

And if you’re into art, definitely check out the GHOST Gallery just down the street! Yup, you can thank me for that pro-tip later.

Address: 925 Bergen St #101, Brooklyn, NY 11238

Hours: Check their website for info on upcoming music night dates.

Price: Varies

How to Get There: Take the B48 or B65 bus to the stop on Franklin Ave/Bergen Street and walk along Bergen Street from there.

10. Visit the Catacombs by Candlelight

The magnificent interior of Old St.Patrick's Cathedral.

The magnificent interior of Old St.Patrick’s Cathedral.

I swear, I’m not a totally macabre weirdo who despises sunlight and who only hangs out in creepy church crypts – even though the contents of this post might suggest otherwise.

I’d also like to mention that although this is a bit of a weird suggestion for romantic things to do in NYC, just hear me out on this one before you instantly discount this suggestion.

Because this wicked awesome tour will take you through the catacombs of the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral (not to be confused with the famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue), hands down one of the most amazing churches in NYC.

This is also the oldest Catholic church in NYC, so you already know it’s full of fascinating history and hidden passageways. Okay, maybe not the second part, but this tour definitely gives you exclusive access to parts of the church that you wouldn’t otherwise get to see.

Now to be fair, the name does suggest that this tour might be SLIGHTLY more romantic than it actually is. I mean yeah, there is candlelight. But, you will be wandering around as part of a ghost tour group that is trying not to meet a gruesome ghoul while exploring the creeperific, catacombs that lie beneath the church.

That being said, old churches and candlelight can be sorta romantic…maybe?

I know, I know, it’s still weird AF to suggest CATACOMBS as a romantic NYC activity, but this church is so gorgeous that you honestly might forget all about the ghosts of parishioners past.

Plus, I gotta rep for my fellow weirdos out there. I mean, over the top, movie-style romance is all fine and wonderful, but I know it’s not for everyone (me included)!

So, if you’re one of my kindred couple spirits who love history, the macabre, and getting off the beaten path, then this is the romantic day out for you and you should probably book this unique experience!

Address: 263 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012, United States

Hours: Check here for available dates and times.

Price: $37 per person

How to Get There: Take either N/Q/R/W train to Prince Street station or the B/D/F/M train to Broadway-Lafayette Street station and walk to the church from there.

11. Take an Indian Cooking Class

Learn how to cook authentic Indian food in NYC.

Learn how to cook authentic Indian food in NYC.

Truth be told, there is a whole myriad of different cooking classes that you can take in NYC. And what you choose to do will ultimately depend on the type of cuisine that you and your loved one enjoy.

But, I’ve definitely done a variety of different cooking classes in NYC (and one of these days I’ll stop ordering in and actually put them to good use…), and this Indian/Soul Food class is one of my all-time faves.

I also think it’s ideal for a romantic night out since it’s private, something that creates an infinitely more intimate experience. Plus, with no one else there, you don’t actually have to worry about sucking so hard in front of a ton of totally rando people (not, um, speaking from personal experience here, obvs).

Now, during this class, your experience will be hosted by Kylie, a truly wonderful woman who knows her stuff and who will attempt to impart some of her culinary wisdom. And trust me, this woman’s got wisdom for days since her samosas are to die for!

So, during your time under her tutelage, she will teach you how to make delicious meals, in addition to various other tricks of the trade, like how to properly grind spices or where to go to get the best ingredients in the city.

She’s also just one of the most welcoming and hospitable people I’ve ever met in NYC. Therefore, she’ll instantly put you at ease and create a super romantic date night for you and your loved one.

Plus, added bonus? Vegetarian and gluten-free options available. So, just let her know ahead of time so that she can come prepared!

It’s also worth noting that if you’re looking for romantic things to do in NYC but can’t find a sitter for the kids, this activity is totally kid-friendly!

And if Indian food just ain’t your thing, then you can always have a very merry, one-of-a-kind, NYC experience as you learn how to cook authentic Jewish cuisine.

Alternatively, you can go ALL OUT and splurge on a sushi-making class in the freaking Empire State Building! Because yes my friends, gastronomic dreams really do come true.

Address: Available upon booking

Hours: Available upon booking

Price: $72 per person

How to Get There: Please ask the host for directions

12. Take a New York City Sunset Boat Cruise

During your cruise, enjoy a beautiful view of the statue of liberty at sunset.

During your cruise, enjoy a beautiful view of the statue of liberty at sunset.

Look, there’s a reason most people will tell you that seeing the city at sunset is one of the most romantic things to do in NYC.

And if you think the Statue of Liberty is impressive during the day, just wait until you see her in all of her glistening beauty at sunset!

Plus, added bonus? This romantic, next-level awesome, sunset cruise will take you all the way around lower Manhattan and past Ellis Island. This way, you’ll get to see several of NYC’s most iconic landmarks (think the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty,  and the NYC Skyline) when they’re at their most resplendent.

You’ll also enjoy a solid one hour on the boat and can even head inside if the area’s brisk winds leave you feeling a little bit chilly.

Otherwise, for the best photo ops humanly possible, head upstairs so that you enjoy stellar views of the NYC skyline..and all while in the arms of your loved one.

Aww, talk about adorbz and something that I fondly refer to as a true Kodak moment, if Kodak is even still in business. Cause I legit have no idea.

Sadly though, drinks and food are not included in the price of this cruise but are available for an additional fee. Which is totally fine by me since the drinks and food available on these things often leaves something to be desired. So yeah, you may want to dine at one of the many, uber-fab restaurants in NYC instead.

And if you don’t think one hour will be enough time to savor the New York flavor as it were, then you can always try this two-hour cruise here. Because if a little is good, then a lot is better. Obvi.

Address: Departure point is Pier 36, 299 South St, New York NY, 10002

Hours: Check availability to see starting times

Price: $35 per person

How to Get There: Take the F train to East Broadway Station and then head down Rutgers Street towards the river. There should be instructions for the pier.

13. Embark on an Evening Jazz Cruise

Another great way to enjoy a romantic evening out in NYC is with a jazz cruise. A truly exciting experience that is popular among music lovers of every variety. So, if you opt for this jazz cruise right here, you’ll depart from Chelsea Pier, travel down towards Ellis Island, and eventually move past the One World Trade Center building.

This also means that you’ll get to enjoy spectacular views of NYC and all while being serenaded by a LIVE jazz band! Because if the wicked smooth sounds of jazz don’t scream romance, then I don’t know what does.

But what I do know is that this will certainly be a date night to remember.

FYI, one complimentary drink is also included in the price of your ticket. But, if you’re ready to get your drinky drank on, then more alcoholy goodness (and non-alcoholy goodness at it were) can always be purchased at the bar.

So, what are you waiting for? Embark on a truly unique, straight-up legendary night out on the town with this jazz cruise right here, which is easily one of the most romantic things to do in NYC.

Come on, you know you want to!

Address: Departure point is 62 Chelsea Piers, New York, NY 10011

Hours: Check availability to see starting times

Price: $78 per person

How to Get There: Take the A, C, E train to 23rd Street Station and then head down W 23rd Street towards the river. There should be directions for Chelsea Pier.

14. Catch a Broadway (or Off-Broadway) Show

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC is to see a Broadway show.

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC is to see a Broadway show.

Hi, my name is Kelly and I am an absolute theater geek of the most epic proportions. And I have exactly zero shame about it since musicals (and Broadway in general) are flipping awesome.

Yeah, I grew up on them and still have an undying passion for them even as an adult. So much so that I think I love them almost as much as I love cake, And that’s saying a lot since I am hopelessly devoted to cake. Heck, I’d probably attend a show once a week if I could actually afford it!

But sadly, I am not that financially secure. In spite of that fact though, attending a Broadway show still needed to be included on this list of 30 of the most romantic things to do in NYC.

Of course, whether you decide to attend a  Broadway or Off-Broadway show is totally up to you. Because both are great (off-Broadway theaters are just in smaller theaters) and it really just depends on what you have in your wallet and on what your personal preferences are.

I also 100% ADORE musicals but recommend seeing a non-musical show as part of one hella awesome date night.

However, just in case you actually WANT my opinion on some of the best musicals for a romantic night out in NYC, my current top picks are The Phantom of the Opera (duh!) and West Side Story.

And just in case you live under a rock, here’s a quick synopsis of the two shows.

The Phantom of the Opera – Set in Paris in the 1880s, this story is about a tragically deformed Phantom who lives within an Opera House. He is also hardcore obsessed with Christine Daaé, a beautiful soprano whom he falls in love with after hearing her sing. From here, the story unfolds, with a little murder, romance, and mayhem thrown in for good measure. FYI, it also the longest-running musical in Broadway history. So yeah, you know it has to be good. A total tried and true classic that you can book tickets for here.

West Side Story – Another classic musical. Except, this one takes place in 1950s Manhattan and is about the tragic love story that unfolds between two teenagers (Tony and Maria) from two different worlds. Originally about race and class disparities in NYC between whites and Puerto Ricans, this 2020 revival has been further updated for the times and really packs a punch! Which is why you should clearly book your tickets now,

15. Radio City Music Hall Tour

Take a tour of New York City's famous, Radio City Music Hall.

Take a tour of New York City’s famous, Radio City Music Hall.

Radio City Music Hall is a straight-up, NYC icon. And for good reason since so many greats have performed on this very stage throughout the years. A long list of greats that include legends like Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and more.

Because yeah, this place basically bleeds talent. So, if you can imagine an epic singer or band, then there’s a good chance that they’ve probably played at Radio City Music Hall.

That’s why, I personally think that a tour of Radio City Music Hall is easily one of the most romantic things to do in NYC. I mean, for any couple really, but especially for those of you who love music.

Because this tour will give you a fascinating, behind the scenes look at this amazing building. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the structure’s world-renowned Art Deco design and discover what real magic lies behind the ‘Great Stage.’

You’ll even get to walk through the famous Stage Door, and all while pretending you’re a real-life celebrity who is about to perform for thousands of adoring fans.

In addition to being one of the top music venues in the world, Radio City is also home to the Rockettes, who are most well known for the wealth of high kicks that they perform during their annual Christmas show.

However, to make this tour even more extra special, you’ll also get to meet a real life Rockette along the way, which is why you should probably book this uber-romantic experience now.

#justsayin’

Address: 40 W 51st Street, New York, NY 10020. You need to enter through the special tour entrance located on 51st Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.

Hours: Daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (you will be put on the next available tour from when you arrive).

Price: $31 per person

How to Get There: Take B, D, F, M train to 47-50 Streets-Rockefeller Center Station and walk up 6th Avenue to the Rockefeller Center. Or take the E, M train to 5th Avenue-53rd Street Station and walk 5th Avenue to the Rockefeller Center.

16. Explore The MET Cloisters

The beautiful European and medieval cloister in Washington Heights, NYC.

The beautiful European and medieval cloister in Washington Heights, NYC.

Often referred to as simply, ‘The Cloisters,’ this is a relatively quiet and somewhat undiscovered branch of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art – a part of this world-class museum that specializes in Medieval art.

Although, if you ask me, the real star of the show here is the on-site garden, which is enclosed by, you guessed it, the cloisters!

They really are absolutely stunning though and make for a great photo op…or 10,000.  And if you’re a fan of Medieval art, then you could easily spend a full day here.

Personally, though, I’m not big into it so I’ll be the first to admit that this might not be at the top of everyone’s NYC bucket list. However, this ethereal place still has an uber-romantic feel to it. Which is why,  the MET Cloisters should still definitely be on your list of romantic things to do in NYC.

Plus, you can always just grab a seat at the Trie Cafe and take in the Cloisters and the garden over a coffee and pastry – something that is basically my idea of a perfect, Sunday afternoon.

And once you’ve had your fill of the Cloisters-related awesomeness, continue your love-inspired shenanigans at Fort Tyron Park. Here you can get unbeatable views of the Hudson River, explore a fort (unsurprisingly named Fort Tyron), and stroll through Heather Garden.

I also highly recommend doing the above activities on a bright and sunny spring or summer day,  This way, you can appreciate the full beauty of this place as you admire the area’s stunning flowers or marvel at the vibrant fall foliage all around.

Address: 99 Margaret Corbin Dr, New York, NY 10040

Hours: Open from Thursday through Monday 10 am to 5 pm

Price: $25 per person (book here to skip the line)

How to Get There: Take the A train to 19th Street Station and walk through Fort Tyron Park.

17.  Whisper Sweet Nothings at Grand Central Terminal

Grand Central Terminal viaduct and old entrance in New York.

Grand Central Terminal viaduct and old entrance in New York.

Yup, hanging out at crazy busy Grand Central Station is one of the most romantic things to do in NYC. No joke! Even better, it’s one of the best FREE romantic things to do in NYC!

And here’s why. Not only is the station itself an NYC icon – a place that is well worth exploring if you’ve never taken the time to properly do so – but it’s also full of fascinating details and hidden gems that are just waiting to be explored.

I mean, you could wander through the on-site market and pick up items for a covert picnic, get dizzy while marveling at the star-filled, turquoise ceiling, or even propose under the Tiffany Clock that sits at the center of the main hall. With, you know, an actual Tiffany ring.

But perhaps one of the most romantic (and incredibly underrated) aspects of Grand Central Terminal is the Campbell Bar (formerly the Campbell Apartment), and my personal favorite, the Whispering Galleries.

See, The Campbell Bar is a dimly lit speakeasy that is hidden away in a far off corner of Grand Central Terminal. Therefore, it’s the perfect place for you and your partner to cozy up in a booth, stare longingly into each other’s eyes, sip on some classic drinks, and people watch until you can people watch no more.

And right nearby? Why, none other than The Whispering Galleries, which are located next to the Grand Central Oyster Bar and Restaurant, Believe it or not, they are actually the source of a unique acoustic phenomenon. So, if two people stand on opposite corners and whisper to each other into the wall, they’ll be able to hear one another perfectly.

This is, of course, perfect for couples since you can quite literally whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ears, but in a gorgeous, cinematic setting that is also totally free of charge.

However, If you really want to make a day of it, then go on a formal tour of this exquisite building, I highly recommend The Secrets of Grand Central Terminal tour, where you can learn all about the history of the station and explore relatively unknown nooks and crannies.

Or, if you’d rather go it alone but still want to learn some fun facts (and need a bit of help navigating this cavernous station) then there are also Self-Guided Audio Tours available too.

And if you STILL don’t believe that this is one of the most romantic spots in NYC, then watch Friends With Benefits, and it just might change your mind!

Address: 89 E 42nd St, New York, NY 10017

Hours: Open daily from 5:15 am to 2:00 am

Price: Free!

How to Get There: Take the 4, 5, 6, 7, S train to Grand Central Station

18. Go for a Wine/Craft Beer Tasting

Embrace the luxe life and do a wine tasting through New York's West Village.

Embrace the luxe life and do a wine tasting through New York’s West Village.

For so many couples out there, a slightly aged fine wine is the epitome of romance. That’s why spending an afternoon wine tasting is the perfect couple’s activity in NYC.

But, of course, craft beer is a growing industry too. And because NYC is basically the best city in the whole wide world, yeah, we totally have you covered when it comes to craft beer too.

So, if you wanna channel your inner wine connoisseur and live the luxe life for a day, then this West Village Wine Tasting Tour is where it’s at. It’s a two-hour tour that includes premium access to a designated ‘wine ambassador’ who will take you to two of the best restaurants in the West Village, A.O.C., an authentic French bistro, and Tio Pepe, which serves traditional Spanish cuisine and wine.

During your time at both restaurants, you’ll be treated to their finest selection of wines, and walked through pairings, ingredients, smelling, and the finer points of how to select the perfect wine for any menu and occasion.

So yeah, basically everything you’ll ever need to know to become a living reincarnation of the movie Sideways and so that you’ll be able to imbibe in wine like a total pro.

Yes, this two-hour tour does cost a hefty $96 per person, but it also includes a grand total of six different wine tastings, as well as a selection of small plates and appetizers that you can pair with your drinks.

Plus, you’ll even get a nifty little wine tasting cheat sheet for future reference. So yeah, a truly worthwhile experience for any hopeless romantics in my blogerific house.

However, if wine just ain’t your thing, then you can always opt for this Craft Beer Sail instead.

And no, you’re not reading that wrong. This is a super unique, craft beer tasting that takes place aboard the Clipper City, AKA New York’s largest sailing vessel. In total, the tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, costs $79 per person (think of it as a super snazzy cruise and beer tasting all rolled into one), and features five local craft beers tastings that are paired with awesome views of the NYC skyline.

Throughout the trip, you’ll also get to sample some of the best local cheeses and charcuterie that NYC has to offer. So, if you have a fondness for the sea and never met a craft beer you didn’t like, then this is the perfect romantic day out in NYC for you. Who knows, you might even meet some fellow zythophiles along the way.

***PSST..If you’re prone to sea sickness and really don’t want to mix beer with sailing – and as someone who is often seasick, I can relate – then you can always book this 3-hour Brooklyn Beer tour with lunch instead!***

Address: Dependent on tour, please check availability for further information.

Hours: Check Availability to see starting times

Price: $79 – 96 per person

How to Get There: Dependent on activity

19. Experience Dizzying Heights at the Edge Observation Deck

A view of The Edge Observation Deck in New York City's Hudson Yards.

A view of The Edge Observation Deck in New York City’s Hudson Yards.

Hudson Yards is one of the most up and coming neighborhoods in all of Manhattan. It’s also known for its crazy alternative architecture, which is best embodied by new classics like The Vessel and now, The Edge Observation Deck.

But just in case you’re not quite “in the know”, the recently opened Edge is now home to THE tallest observation deck in NYC. In fact, at 1100 feet, The Edge Observation Deck is actually the highest outdoor sky deck in the entire Western Hemisphere!

So fair warning, this one is NOT for the faint of heart or anyone out there who is more than a little scared of heights.

However, one of the most unique attributes of The Edge Observation Deck is the floor, a large portion of which is made entirely of glass. This way, you can easily stand here and look down at the city beneath you -something that may be equal parts awe-inspiring and terrifying for most visitors.

So, if heights don’t freak you out too much, then you can easily see why this experience would be one of the best romantic things to do in NYC for any couple. Especially since it includes an element of thrill-seeking that makes it feel far more dangerous and transgressive than it actually is (it’s 150% safe, pinkie promise).

Of course, if you still want the views but the weather is bad,  then you’ll be delighted to know that there are two enclosed areas that also offer guests a series of dazzling, panoramic views.

And, naturally, I would definitely suggest trying to time your visit for sunset. You know, just so that you can make things a little bit extra special. You’ll also want to book your skip-the-line tickets well in advance so that you can skip the queue and avoid long wait times at this uber-popular attraction.

Address: 30 Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001 (Enter at Level 4 of The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards)

Hours: Open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm

Price: $42 per person (book skip-the-line-entry here)

How to Get There: Take the 7 train to 34th Street-Hudson Yards Station. Or M99 to 10th Ave-West 34th Street Station. Then head towards the tallest building you see, or follow the signs for Hudson Yards.

20. Relive the Movies at the Empire State Building

The beauty of the Empire State Building at sunset.

The beauty of the Empire State Building at sunset.

Honestly, you can’t have a list of the most romantic things to do in NYC and NOT include the Empire State Building.

I mean, come on? How many times have we quietly sat at home and marveled at the sheer, cinematic awe of two-star crossed lovers falling in love atop the one and only Empire State Building?

Because I know I couldn’t possibly be the only one who grew up on immortal movie classics like An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle.

As a result, I have now come to equate the Empire State Building with over-the-top romance, true love, and grand gestures. Therefore, it should come as a surprise to exactly no one that I consider The Empire State Building to be one of the greatest romantic monuments in the world, right up there with the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal.

So, to really experience the true romance of NYC, you and your partner will NEED to head up to the top of the Empire State Building STAT. Because trust me, you’ll want to take in all of the next level awesome views while professing your undying love and devotion for one another.

Or, you could always just display whatever amount of PDA works for you. Because I for one have never been comfortable slobbering all over my companion of choice in public. But that’s just me.

Personally, though, I think the true magic of the Empire State Building really emerges at sunset. I mean, I just love the feel of a cool evening breeze as I watch the city lights twinkle to life and a kaleidoscope of colors dance across the horizon.

Of course, the monumental downside to a sunset visit is that you don’t get as much time to marvel at the city below. So, if you prefer to visit in the afternoon and at sunset, then you can opt for a double-entry ticket that allows you to come once in the afternoon and once in the evening for optimal levels of romance.

And as always, avoid ridiculously long lines by booking your skip-the-line ticket well in advance (I mean, now would be a really good time. Hint, hint).

Address: 20 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001

Hours: Open daily from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm

Price: From $46 per person (book here to skip the line, or book here to see it twice in one day!)

How to Get There: Take the E, B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W train to 34th Street-Herald Square Station, then head west down West 34th Street.

21. Go Stargazing at the Hayden Planetarium

Stand in awe of the exquisite beauty of far off galaxies at Hayden Planetarium.

Stand in awe of the exquisite beauty of far off galaxies at Hayden Planetarium.

I first visited Hayden Planetarium back in the winter of 2001, less than a year after it opened. And let me tell you that I left in total awe and disbelief.

As a result, I’ve returned multiple times since. Because honestly? I just cannot get enough of this awesome place and always try and come back whenever date night rolls around.

Because once you step Inside this ultra-modern planetarium, you’ll get to lie back in uber comfy chairs while the universe unfolds before you as part of a totally immersive theater experience. So, feel free to live it up and hold hands with your honey, as a calming voice explains all of the galactic mysteries swirling above you and points out key constellations, stars, and more.

As I said, super romantic. I mean, it’s not like Ross proposed to Rachel in a planetarium for no reason. Because yeah, this place practically oozes nerdy romance!

Plus, THE Neil deGrasse Tyson was actually the director for all of the films shown here. So, you know that every single fact has been double-checked at least three times before it’s let into the show! You know, just in case factual accuracy actually matters to you on a date.

So, if you’re looking for some unique experiences or just some uber romantic things to do in NYC on a rainy day, then I fully encourage you to spend the day stargazing at Hayden Planetarium.

***Hot Tip! While you’re here, pop into Cafe Friday (located just around the corner) for some of the best vegan Mexican food in all of NYC. And just in case you were wondering, yes, they also serve non-Vegan food. But, their vegan options are straight up amazeballs!***

Address: 200 Central Park West, New York, NY 10024 (inside the American Museum of Natural History)

Hours: Open Monday through Friday with shows every half hour between 10:30 am and 4:00 pm, except on Wednesdays, when the first show begins at 11:00 am; Saturday and Sunday shows are every half hour between 10:30 am and 5:00 pm

Price: From $23 per person (included in the ticket for the American Museum of Natural History, tickets must be reserved online)

How to Get There: Take the A, B, C train, or M10 bus to 81st Street Station and follow the signs.

22. Go on a Romantic Helicopter Tour of NYC

Aerial views of NYC from a helicopter.

Aerial views of NYC from a helicopter.

For anyone who isn’t totally wowed by the fantastic views of NYC from the Empire State Building or The Edge Observatory, you can always live the luxe life for a day and take a helicopter ride over the city.

Sure, it’s obviously one of the most romantic things to do in NYC, but it’s also pretty dang expensive at $750 a ride. But, you can have up to 15 of your closest friends come with you on the ride. So, divided by 15, that price is a much more reasonable, $50 per person.

Now, once you’ve decided to go for the glory and book this stellar experience, you’ll start with a short but thorough safety briefing. But, the good news? After this, you and your partner will be free to climb aboard the helicopter and take off!

Sadly, the tour only lasts thirty minutes but will fly you over all five boroughs, as well as iconic monuments like the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, and Yankee Stadium. Tours also run all day, so you can opt for an early start, a mid-afternoon jaunt, or a star-filled, evening outing.

And while there are several different helicopter tours out there, I recommend a private one. This means you won’t have to wait your turn or get aggressive while flying over your favorite spots. It’s also just a much more personal and special experience when it’s just the two of you…and maybe 13 of your closest friends. Just, you know, so that you can keep things only mildly expensive.

Address: Ross Aviation, 67 Tower Road, Harrison, NY 10604

Hours: Check Availability to see starting times

Price: $730

How to Get There: The meeting point is easily accessible by taking the Metro-North train from Grand Central to White Plains station then a taxi to the airport with an average travel time between 45 and 60 minutes.

23. Embark on a Street Art Exploration Game in Williamsburg

Stop by Williamsburg and see some of the collest street art in NYC.

Stop by Williamsburg and see some of the coolest street art in NYC.

If you’re looking for some slightly cheaper, albeit still seriously romantic things to do in NYC, then this experience right here will make an awesome date night activity. Especially if you have a fondness for street art.

Because this is essentially a street art scavenger hunt, through Williamsburg, that you and your partner can do independently, from the comfort of your very own cellphone. It also makes for a fantastic, active day out that allows you to explore even more of this amazing city. Plus, Williamsburg is defo home to some of the coolest street art in all of NYC. So, I have no doubt that you’ll find some new fave murals while you’re here!

In order to activate the game though, all the potential players will need to head to the designated starting point. However, once you do get there, this will be an entirely self-guided tour. So, don’t expect anyone to be helping you out along the way.

You can also choose to do the game as part of a team, or, for more competitive couples, participate independently of one another to see who can finish first. That’s why, this street art exploration game is ideal for anyone who loves street art, but who doesn’t want to go on a group tour. It’s also an ideal activity for anyone on a budget since at $16 a couple, it definitely won’t break the bank!

Just do yourself a solid and remember to charge your phone before you embark on this hella awesome adventure.

Address: Starts at 175 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211

Hours: You choose when to start and go at your own pace

Price: $16 per couple.

How to Get There: Take the M, J, Z train to Marcy Avenue Station, then walk west along Broadway towards the water.

24. Pretend You’re a Spy at the SPYSCAPE Museum and Experience

Become a spy for the day at NYC's interactive, Spyscape Museum.

Become a spy for the day at NYC’s interactive, Spyscape Museum.

Have you always secretly wanted to be a spy? If so then now you is your chance because you can do so (at least for the day) at the SPYSCAPE Museum and Experience!

During your visit, you’ll learn all about the history of covert intelligence, discover a wealth of cool gadgetry that you never knew existed (yes my friends, 007 has been holding out on us), take part in covert, spy-related missions, and learn all about the fine art of encrypting secret messages.

So, channel your inner James Bond as you wander through this dark, atmospheric museum, uncovering a wealth of trade secrets along the way. And if you want, you can even read all about real-life spies who helped save the world and double agents who almost destroyed it.

Plus, included with your ticket is your very own, comprehensive spy profile, which is put together by the former Head of Training at British Intelligence (the very same James Bond works for). This profile will help you understand your risk-tolerance capabilities, assess your problem-solving skills, and assign you a suitable, covert role based on this assessment. You can then read all about former spies who also share those same personality traits with you.

Plus, as of 2020, the museum has actually opened the world’s first-ever, immersive James Bond experience, which takes you behind the scenes and into the world of 007.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, you can also get some of your very OWN spy merch at the on-site gift shop. You know, a super nifty place that sells fun things like false coins that hold memory cards and hair clips that can be used as screwdrivers. Yup, neat-o is the understatement of the century.

Hours: Open daily from 10 am to 9 pm

25. Become Enchanted by the Ballet at Lincoln Center

Marvel at the beautiful ballerinas at Lincoln Center in NYC.

Marvel at the beautiful ballerinas at Lincoln Center in NYC.

Now I know ballet isn’t for everyone. In fact, one of my exes absolutely abhorred it. But, for those of us who love it, there truly is nothing more magical than a night out at the ballet.

I dunno, There’s just something so magical about watching dancers jump around and effortlessly contort their bodies in time to ethereal, wonderfully soothing music.

This is why seeing a ballet performance at Lincoln Center is easily one of the most romantic things to do in NYC.  Lincoln Center is also conveniently located near Central Park, making it easy to combine a show with other nearby activities and allowing you to create the ultimate day out in NYC with your partner.

And some of the most famous ballets performed at Lincoln Center include La Boheme, Romeo and Juliet, Carmen, and Don Giovanni. Live orchestras from across the country also come here to play beautiful music to accompany the shows. So, keep an eye out for their upcoming schedule because you never know when you just might find a free show!

Address: David H. Koch Theater, 20 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, New York 10023

Hours: Only open for shows

How to Get There: Take the 1, 2 train to 66th Street-Lincoln Center Station

26. Go for a Sunset Stroll Along the Brooklyn Bridge

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC is to take a scenic stroll along the Brooklyn Bridge.

One of the most romantic things to do in NYC is to take a scenic stroll along the Brooklyn Bridge.

If you love NYC even a little bit, then you’re bound to find a sunset stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge to be one of the most romantic things to do in NYC. Yeah sorry (#notsorry) but it’s just a fact.

And even if you’re only visiting the city for a day, you definitely won’t find a place with better, totally free, sunset views of NYC. Because standing atop the Brooklyn Bridge allows you to see some of NYC’s most iconic buildings, everything from the Chrysler Building to the Manhattan skyline.

That’s why, this is the perfect place to end to a romantic day out with your partner: walking hand in hand across one of the most stunning bridges in the world.

Plus, If you really want to make a night of it, you can always grab a piece of pizza either before or after you walk across the bridge, at one of the several delicious pizzerias in DUMBO (on the Brooklyn side of the bridge) – my personal favorite of which just happens to be Julianna’s.

However, If pizza doesn’t interest you, and you don’t mind the walk, then you can go a bit further into Brooklyn and dine at an amazing West African restaurant called Amarachi. I love their fried yam stew with jollof rice. But if you eat meat, there are a TON of other options here for you too!

Next, top your beyond lovely evening off with a scoop of ice cream (AKA a thin slice of heaven) from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Sure, they don’t have a ton of flavors. But the ones they do have make for a total foodgasm in my mouth.

And my go-to flavor of choice? None other than butter pecan since you can combine it with chocolate for pure, gastronomic heaven.

Address: Brooklyn Bridge, New York, NY 10038

Hours: 24 Hours

Price: Free!

How to Get There: Take the A, C train to High Street-Brooklyn Bridge Station, 4, 5, 6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall Station, J, Z to Chambers Street.

27. Sleep in and Get Brunch

Enjoy a decadent brunch in New York City.

Enjoy a decadent brunch in New York City.

I love brunch so very, very much. And If I could, I would sleep in and hoover up a decadent brunch every single day,

Yup, then I really would be the very definition of a totally zen person. Alas, life gets in the way and businesses just can’t seem to run themselves.

That’s why, any chance I get, I head out to brunch. Because for me, sleeping in with a partner and then making our way to our favorite brunch spot is easily one of the most lowkey, romantic things to do in NYC.

And this pastime is easy to enjoy in NYC, which is basically the single greatest city for brunch in the entire world. So much so that I now have TWO different posts on my website that are dedicated to brunch in NYC. about! One will show you where to find some of the most fun NYC brunch spots in NYC, while the other will direct to all of the best boozy brunch spots in NYC.

Because, like I said earlier, I kind of live for brunch. And a few of my faves include Queen’s Comfort (come for the insane amount of egg dishes or the oreo STUFFED french toast), Havana Cafe (serving delicious Cuban inspired fare and ideal on a budget since their mimosa brunch combo is just $10!), and Jack’s Wife Freda (run by a lovely immigrant couple who make mouth-watering Mediterranean meals – it’s always packed, but worth the wait).

If you want something a bit more upscale though, you can always try out one these awesome NYC rooftop bars and see if they have a divine brunch menu on offer!

Or, you could go totally all out on a Champagne brunch sail! Yes, yes you did read that correctly. Now you really can have your brunch AND drink champagne too…and all whle sitting aboard a snazzy AF boat!

28. Get in the Mood at the Museum of Sex

Step inside New York's now infamous, museum of sex.

Step inside New York’s now infamous, museum of sex.

An absolutely scandalous suggestion, I know! But, this IS an article about romantic things to do in NYC, and touring the Museum of Sex is actually a fun couple’s activity.

That being said, the exhibits here are a bit risque and so this place definitely isn’t for everyone. But, who knows. You just might broaden your horizons and discover your new favorite date night museum!

Now, if you’ve ever stopped by, then you know that some of their special exhibits can be quite serious in tone (In the past, they have curated exhibitions on abortion, prostitution, etc.). But ultimately, the Museum of Sex is still all about, well, fun, sex, and our bodies.

And even though we’re constantly surrounded by it and inundated with a neverending torrent of sex-related imagery, it”s still am incredibly intimate facet fo our lives. Plus, yeah, most of the exhibits here are pretty dang erotic.

So, if you’re delicate sensitivities aren’t too easily offended, then head to the Museum of Sex for a couple’s day out. It’s a great way to covertly hint at each other about what’s coming up later on in the evening (wink, wink).

Also, let’s be brutally honest here people. Our society definitely has a long way to go before we can talk freely and openly about sex. Therefore, having this slightly taboo topic thrust upon us (pun intended) is sometimes a perfect way to get us to open up and talk more about what we want and what we like.

Oh yeah, and you can buy copious amounts of sex toys in the museum gift shop. Just saying.

Address: 233 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016

Price: From $26 per person (depends on time and day of visit)

How to Get There: Take the 4, 6, R, W train to 28th Street Station, then walk along 28th street

Staten Island doesn’t get nearly as much love as it should. In fact, it’s often referred to as “the forgotten borough”. A fact that is heartbreakingly unfortunate since there are a ton of cool things to do there.

So, if you’re looking for a more unusual romantic day out, then consider a trip over to Staten Island. Not only is the ferry FREE, but Staten Island tends to be infinitely cheaper than the rest of NYC. Therefore,  it’s a great place to go if you want to treat your partner but are also on a limited budget.

Now, of course, you can always just wander around and see what hidden gems you stumble upon. But, just in case you want a few pointers, your girl’s here and has totally got you totally covered.

So, for starters, Staten Island is home to the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden, which is one of only TWO classic, outdoor Chinese gardens in the entire USA. I mean, who even knew?! And more impressively, it was actually built in and then shipped all the way here from China! So yeah, a small but totally enchanting green space that is known for being one of the most romantic things to do in NYC. FYI, tickets also cost a mere $5 and include entry to the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art.

Next, treat yourself to a meal at Enoteca Maria, an Italian wine bar with two actual Italian grandmas in the kitchen. And yes, everything they make is delicious and tastes JUST like grandma’s cooking. Naturally.

From there, spend the afternoon wandering through Historic Richmond Town, a 100-acre, living history museum where you can learn more about this fascinating island. Or, head to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, which was initially founded as a retirement home for sailors and is now the site of a traditional Japanese garden!

Lastly, finish up your time here with a pastry from Haltermann’s Bakery, which has been in operation for well over 150 years and is still making a wealth of traditional treats from the early 1900s – using secret family recipes, of course!

30. Spend the Day Amongst Books

The beautiful, old-world charm of the Morgan Library in New York City.

The beautiful, old-world charm of the Morgan Library in New York City.

I see you there, rolling your eyes at , me! But, before you totally discount this suggestion, hear me out! Because in this modern-day, all too wonky world of ours, libraries and bookshops have been somewhat immortalized in films.

As a result, they are the charming, all together totally romantic backdrop to classic films like Beauty and the Beast and You’ve Got Mail. So  yeah, books are clearly a sign of true love (said with a modicum of sarcasm). And the structures they are housed in are often totes magical too. You also will NOT ever convince me otherwise, so don’t even try.

In fact, in my humble opinion, the Morgan Library is probably one of the most romantic places in NYC. Seriously! Don’t come @ me.

That’s why, I personally think that spending a day there, cozying up in a dark corner with your favorite book, is a great way to spend a quiet, rainy day in NYC. Of course, this is probably only true if you actually like books.

And if you want to transform your bookish date into something extra special, then you can try picking out books for each other using a few fun ‘keywords”. Or, you could always try to locate some of your favorite books from when you were a kid and see if you have any in common.

Also, for couples who like to collect different copies of the same book, you can venture on over to Albertine’s, one of the best bookstores in NYC, and see if they have a copy of your favorite book in French.

Address: 225 Madison Ave, New York, NY

Hours: Open Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm (except open late, until 9 pm on Fridays), Saturdays from 10 am to 6:00 pm, and Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm.

Price: Tickets are $22 for adults, $14 for seniors (65 and over), $13 for students with a current, student ID, and to members and children 12 and under.

How to Get There: Honestly, just take any subway line to Times Square since you can easily walk to the Morgan Public Library from there.

So there you have it kids who are perpetually cooler than me! My list of the 30 most insanely romantic things to do in NYC.

Tell me, did your fave romantic activity of all time make the list? If not, then let me know in the comments below and I’ll be sure to add to this list of romantic places in NYC.

And if you found this post even a little bit helpful, then be sure to pin it now so that you can read it again later!

I want to visit NYC so much! I have been to some places already but definitely, I still have a huge list of things to do there. The helicopter tour of NYC seems very cool, and that brunch...
