Les Lumières de Noël Nestled is pure holiday magic! I had the chance to visit last year, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best Christmas markets in France.
Between the 23rd of November and the 24th of December, Montbéliard transforms into a wintery fairytale, with over 170 beautifully decorated wooden chalets lining the streets near Saint-Martin temple.
The scent of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and buttery bredele fills the air, while local artisans sell everything from handcrafted ornaments to Alsatian treats.
However, what truly sets this market apart is the “Lumières de Noël” (Christmas Lights) festival that features thousands of sparkling lights.
Additionally, don’t miss a traditional parade that features Saint Nicholas and all of his magical helpers.
2. Noël à Metz (Metz)
If you’re looking for a Christmas to remember, then run, don’t walk, to the Noël à Metz Christmas market.
I visited last December, but you can visit any time between November 22 and December 30, and was blown away by this magical city.
See, Metz doesn’t just have one market. Not, it has several spread out across the city, each with its own festive vibe.
From the twinkling lights of Place Saint-Louis to the giant Ferris wheel with dreamy views of the cathedral, every corner felt like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting.
So, get ready to shop for handmade gifts, nibble on local delights like pain d’épices, and warm up with a spicy vin chaud. I loved ice-skating on the rink with enchanting light displays sparkling all around me.
What makes Metz truly special is how it blends tradition with whimsy. It’s joyful, authentic, and full of heart.
3. Christmas Market in Place des Dominicains (Colmar)
Located in the heart of the Alsace region, the Christmas market at Colmar’s Place des Dominicains is an absolute must-visit.
Set against the backdrop of a majestic Dominican Church from the 14th century, the church’s stained-glass windows are bathed in festive lights and create a magical atmosphere you won’t soon forget.
Held annually from November 26th through December 29th, over 60 wooden chalets fill the square and sell handcrafted ornaments, ceramics, and festive decor.
The scent of mulled wine and spiced gingerbread also swirls through the air and invites you to dig into a wide array of local delights.
Once night falls, thousands of twinkling lights come alive and cast a warm glow over the cobblestone streets of one of the most beautiful places in France.
4. Ville de Noël (Arras)
Arras is a charming town in northern France that unveils its enchanting Christmas market, “Ville de Noël,” every year from late November through late December.
Set against the backdrop of the Grand’Place, a gorg Flemish Baroque square, this market captivates with 140+ wooden chalets selling homemade gifts, local delicacies, and seasonal treats.
When you start to feel hungry, indulge in regional specialties like mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and gingerbread.
Also, don’t forget to take a ride on a 35-meter-tall Ferris wheel with sweeping panoramic views of the city. Afterward, check out the ice rink and use the awesome toboggan run too.
Meanwhile, younger visitors get the chance to visit Santa’s house and take a spin on a fun carousel.
5. Le Marché de Noël de Reims (Reims)
Reims transforms into a full-on winter wonderland from November 27 to December 29, when the city hosts its renowned Christmas Market at the Hautes Promenades Jean-Louis Schneiter.
Featuring over 150 charming chalets adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations, visitors can shop for local souvenirs or sample a variety of different foods.
There is also a stunning, 55-meter-tall Ferris wheel in Place d’Erlon that offers panoramic views from the top.
Alternatively, families can head to the Children’s Kingdom at the Palais du Tau to enjoy free activities like Santa’s chalet, a little train ride, and an ice rink.
Also, don’t miss the “Rêve de Couleurs” light show. It is projected onto Reims Cathedral, and is a breathtaking, 25-minute spectacle that brings the historic building to life.

However, the real highlight is the unique Christmas fabric that is designed to decorate the many chalets and facades of the market, paying homage to Mulhouse’s rich textile heritage.
I also took a stroll through Place de la Réunion and was captivated by the illuminated Temple Saint-Étienne.
Additionally, there were a ton of charming wooden chalets selling artisanal gifts, ceramics, and delicious treats like tarte flambée and mulled wine.
If you have kids, visit the Christmas village on Place de la Bourse. They have a ton of activities inspired by the classic tale of the Nutcracker.
Overall, I ADORE the market in Mulhouse since it has a more intimate and authentic feel to it. It is also a lot less crowded than the French Christmas markets in nearby cities.
7. Marché de Noël à Strasbourg (Strasbourg)
Strasbourg’s Christmas Market is a must-visit for anyone looking for a truly magical holiday experience.
Held annually from November 27th to December 27th, the market transforms the city into a Christmas dream complete with over 300 wooden chalets that spread out across the Grande Île district.
As I wandered along the cobblestone streets, the air was filled with the aroma of mulled wine (vin chaud), roasted chestnuts, and traditional Alsatian treats like bredele cookies and flammekueche flatbreads.
However, you cannot miss the enormous 30-meter-tall Christmas tree that sits in the center of Place Kléber. It’s surrounded by twinkling lights and festive decorations that are stunning to behold.
Other highlights include live music, carol performances, and street entertainers that only add to the enchanting atmosphere.
There is also a Children’s Village on Place Saint Thomas with circus-themed activities and interactive games that kids will love, making Strasbourg an awesome Christmas destination for travelers of all ages.
8. Marché de Noël d’Amiens (Amiens)

Held annually from late November through late December, the market transforms the city into a winter wonderland with over 120 chalets selling handmade gifts, local delicacies, and seasonal treats.

As you probably already guessed, there are a TON of Christmas markets in Paris.
Some of my faves include “La Magie de Noël” at the Tuileries Garden, the Champ de Mars Christmas Market (Eiffel Tower), and the Notre Dame Christmas market.
However, there is also the La Défense Christmas market and one in Montmartre (Abbesses).
Personally, if I were heading to Paris in the winter, I would visit the market inside the Tuileries Garden.
It is held from November 16th through January 1st, and is filled with over 80 chalets selling handcrafted gifts, gourmet treats, and seasonal delights.
Visitors can also enjoy a variety of cool attractions like an ice skating rink, a Ferris wheel with panoramic views of Paris, and carnival rides for all ages.
Another super cool market is the Eiffel Tower Christmas Market (Marché de Noël de la Tour Eiffel).
