The Historic Hotel Broadalbin – Is it worth it? Find out now!

Looking for an amazing place to stay while in Saratoga Springs? A beyond fantastic hotel that features all the modern comforts and conveniences of a five-star hotel but without the exceptionally high price tag? If so then the Historic Hotel Broadalbin is the place for you.

Not only is it conveniently located in Broadalbin, NY – a quaint little town that is a short 30-minute drive from Saratoga Springs – but the entire hotel oozes charm and class out of every crevice.

Plus, unlike many larger hotels, this enchanting establishment has a personal feel about it that is embodied through the charming, period-piece furniture and the exceptional, personalized service,

Because at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin, they are all about making you feel right at home and like you’re part of the family. A goal that is easy to achieve since they have just twelve stunning rooms on-site.

Although truth be told, this place is actually way better than home since friendly staff clean your room daily and complimentary coffee stations can be found scattered throughout the hotel. A minor detail that I ADORED since, well, I am totally caffeine-addicted and am physically unable to start my day without a giant cup of coffee.

There is also a lovely bar and restaurant just downstairs that serves a wealth of delicious, freshly made appetizers and entrees that include a selection of Italian-style dishes as well as wings, gourmet burgers, specialty sandwiches, salads, etc.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Saratoga Springs and are looking for a luxurious place to stay that is quiet, well-priced, and known for exceptional food and service, then continue on and learn all about my stay at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin.

Standing outside the beautiful Historic Hotel Broadalbin in Broadalbin, NY.

Just a short thirty-minute drive away from Saratoga Springs, NY is the Historic Broadalbin Hotel. It’s conveniently located along a main thoroughfare at 59 West Main Street in, you guessed it, Broadalbin, NY.

It’s also a charming, 2.5-star hotel with a wonderfully historic feel to it that is enhanced by an expansive front porch (lavishly adorned with an assortment of vibrant mums and pumpkins at the time of my visit), a lovely outdoor patio on the second floor, a stunning central staircase, and a warm and welcoming on-site restaurant that serves a wealth of entrees and handcrafted drinks between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on Sundays (hello Sunday brunch) and between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays.

In total, there are twelve wonderfully decorated, smoke-free rooms here, all of which feature en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, exquisite decor, access to a charming second-floor patio, free on-site parking, complimentary toiletries, access to a coffee-making station, and complimentary WIFI (And we’re talking next-level awesome WIFI that won’t drop every 2.5 seconds) – all available for between $90 and $120 per night.

Other hotel amenities include daily housekeeping (they do a really good job and my room was spotless), air-conditioning, in-room heating (just adjust the knobs on the individual in-room heaters to make the room warmer or colder), modern bathrooms that are outfitted with stand up showers or jacuzzi tubs, flat-screen TVs with cable TV, hairdryers, and more.

Additionally, the vintage-style decor meticulously placed throughout the hotel’s exterior, restaurant, main entrance, upstairs corridors, and well-appointed guest rooms is a wonderful nod to the establishment’s unique past.

Because believe it or not, this hotel was first built as a glove factory in 185$ and then later transformed into the Keeley Cure inebriate hospital in 1895, a commercial medical operation that advertised effective medical treatment for alcoholics.

And while the efficacy of the cures they offered is debatable,  the beauty and historic charm of this building is not. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to potential guests that the structure was later converted into the Kennyetto Inn and now finally, the stunning, Historic Hotel Broadalbin that you see today.

Location of the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

The racing museum in downtown Saratoga Springs NY.

The Historic Hotel Broadalbin is about a thirty-minute drive away from Saratoga Springs.

Like I stated earlier, the Historic Hotel Broadalbin is located in the quiet New York town of Broadalbin, which is about a 30-minute drive from Saratoga Springs. So, it’s conveniently tucked away in the foothills of the Adirondacks, on the South end of the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Initially, I was a bit worried about actually finding this place since I had never heard of this town and am totally directionally challenged.

However, it was really easy to find using my GPS since the hotel itself sits right on a main street. There’s also ample free parking in the back, which makes it easy to drop off your car and then walk around to the front of the building for check-in.

That being said though, the on-site bar and restaurant are quite popular among locals. So, the only time you might have trouble finding on-site parking is on a Friday or Saturday evening, when a wealth of patrons are parked here for dinner. Other than that though, parking is a total non-issue and SUPER easy.

Now, I know what. you might be wondering. Because yes, I was thinking the same thing before I actually stayed here. Is the slightly remote location an issue? And I am delighted to say that it 100% isn’t and is something that I ended up enjoying since you’re close enough to Saratoga to drive in for the day but not so close that you’re annoyed by the traffic, noise, and distinct lack of parking in downtown Saratoga.

Yup, talk about the best of both worlds.

So, although you will need your own car when staying here since there’s no public transportation to speak of, it’s a quiet hotel that is still within driving distance of a ton of local attractions like the Saratoga Racetrack, the fire tower at Gore Mountain, Great Sacandaga Lake, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Batchellerville Bridge, Northville, various breweries, wineries, and more, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and culture vultures alike.

Check-in and Check-out at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

In general, guests are welcome to check-in to their rooms as early as 3:00 pm (or as late as 9:00 pm) and can then check-out as late as 11:00 am the next morning.

So yes, as you probably already guessed, there is no twenty-four-hour front desk service available here. That’s because this is a small, family-run hotel. Therefore, the front desk is only open Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 pm through 9:00 pm.

That being said though, Brittani was gracious enough to accommodate my travel needs and allowed me to do an early self-check-in at 1:00 pm on the day of my arrival.

So, I basically just walked in through the front door, ascended the gorgeous central staircase, opened the door to the second floor, made a right, and walked to my room at the end of the hall.

There, I found a key in the door of room number 10 and quickly let myself into my private room for the next two nights (FYI, it’s a regular key and not a keycard).

And yeah, that was pretty much it. So, easy peasy.

However, I did need to set up a time to meet with Brittani (between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm on the day of my arrival) in her first-floor office to fill out some paperwork and provide her with credit card information, just in case there was damage to my room or I decided to take a bottle of water.

But, the process was totally painless and actually pretty dang fun since Brittani was very warm and welcoming and gave me a ton of information about what to do, see, and eat in the area.

And then check out, well, it could NOT have been easier. I basically just left my key inside my room on the day of my departure, said a fond farewell to this snazzy AF hotel, and that was about it. Just be sure to leave before 11:00 am since that’s the designated check out time.

Although, I’m sure that the uber-helpful staff at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin would more than happy to help you out if you need to make any special arrangements on the day you leave.

My Room at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

Holding a pillow while sitting on a yellow sofa inside the parlor of the Historic Hotel Broadalbin's bridal suite.

The parlor of the bridal suite at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin.

Okay, thing 10,564 I love about this hotel?

All twelve guest rooms are totally unique and individually decorated with a wealth of modern amenities that are perfectly balanced out by a meticulous selection of period-piece furniture. An assortment of enchanting pieces that.capture the vintage beauty and fascinating history of this amazing building.

And although I’ll talk about some of the other rooms at the hotel in the next section, I personally spent two nights in room number 10, the Kenyetto Room.

It’s the hotel’s amazing bridal suite, which features a beautiful parlor area that leads into a lavishly decorated bedroom with a plush, queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with one of the best toilets ever, and a jet tub.

Yup, that jet tub was easily my favorite thing about the entire room. Although, the bed was pretty dang comfy too and provided me with one of the best night’s sleep that I’ve had in a really long time.

FYI, this is also one of the more expensive rooms at the hotel since it retails for $189 per night. However, that totally makes sense since the parlor alone features a nice size flat-screen TV, a vintage-style yellow sofa with an accent pillow that reads “Be Our Guest” (I always love a nod to Disney), an antique writing desk (pretty but not super useful), turquoise patterned carpets, and vintage-style light fixtures that provide you with ample light.

Then, you walk into the slightly more modern-feeling bedroom to discover a beyond comfortable queen-size bed with plenty of pillows, a large jet tub complete with complimentary toiletries in the left corner. a slightly small closet, one small window with a view of the parking lot below, turquoise walls, a clock radio, a side table, and a light, bright modern bathroom with posh granite countertops and beautiful white drawers with stainless steel handles beneath the sink.

So yeah, you have just about everything you need for an exceptionally comfortable stay. The one downside? There aren’t any drawers in the bedroom and the closet is rather small. That’s why, if you come here with a ton of luggage, you’ll probably need to keep your belongings tucked away inside your suitcase in the parlor.

Other than that though, this room is pretty perfect and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including free WIFI, access to a communal coffee-making station on the second floor, and the ability to relax on one of the many chairs that line the outdoor patio just above the main entrance.

Breakfast is also not included in the price of your room. So, while you can enjoy a la carte dining at the hotel’s downstairs restaurant every Sunday morning, you’ll need to go elsewhere for sustenance any other day of the week.

Truth be told though, there aren’t a ton of amazing dining options right near the hotel. So, if I were you, I’d head into Saratoga Springs and take advantage of some of the amazing eateries there.

Other Rooms at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

Although I personally only stayed in the Kenyetto Room, I got to marvel at the fabulous interior decor of some of the hotel’s other eleven rooms, which range in price from $99 to $190 per night.

Like I mentioned earlier, they are all individually decorated and have a distinctly historic charm about them that is only enhanced by a slew of exceptionally modern amenities like WIFI, luxurious bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, spacious beds, and more.

So, if you’d like to stay in one of the Historic Hotel Broadalbin’s many other fantastic rooms, you can choose from:

  • Earl’s Room (#4) – Starting at $99 per night, this room is designed for two people and features two single beds with a hallway bathroom. This room can also be rented out with Frenchman’s Room to create a suite with an in-room bathroom.

The Restaurant at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

Although I didn’t get to dine at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin restaurant myself, the food and wine on offer here must be good since the restaurant and bar were both packed while I was here.

So, during your stay, feel free to stop into the casual bar for some appetizers and freshly made drinks (on the ground floor to your left), or opt for a slightly more formal dining experience in the hotel’s main dining room (on the ground floor to your right).

Either way, you can try an array of freshly made entrees and appetizers that typically cost anywhere between $10 and $20 per dish. And while many of the dishes on offer here have an Italian feel to them, you can try a ton of different foods including wings, pizza, specialty sandwiches, gourmet burgers, salads, and soups, was well as a selection of twenty-five different bottled beers.

If you want, you can also stop by for Sunday brunch, served on Sundays between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm, or a nice hearty dinner any Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Service at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin

Another one of the beautiful rooms inside the Historic Hotel Broadalbin.

Another one of the beautiful rooms inside the Historic Hotel Broadalbin.

In general, I was really pleased with the service I received at the Historic Hotel Broadalbin.

Because it’s a smaller, family-owned hotel, the staff are much more friendly and will happily answer any questions you have – even if your question doesn’t really pertain to the job they’re doing.

So, for example, I asked the cleaning lady a BUNCH of questions about the area. And rather than ignoring me or saying, “I don’t know”,  she was super friendly and answered all of my ridiculous questions, even though that’s not really part of her job description.

Other than that though, Brittani was amazing at check-in and answered pretty any question i could come up with. The cleaning lady also did a fantastic job making up my room each day, while the bartender seemed attentive and very engaged with guests.

That’s why this hotel definitely gets a ten out of ten when it comes to service. I mean, any question I had and any issue that arose was quickly, swiftly, and easily dealt with – and all with an air of happiness and a broad smile that seemed totally genuine.

Would I Recommend the Historic Hotel Broadalbin?

So, the question remains, would I actually recommend the Historic Hotel Broadalbin to someone planning a trip to Saratoga Springs or someone needing a romantic weekend getaway in upstate New York?

Umm…heck yeah, I would!

Sure, there’s no twenty-four front desk or complimentary breakfast included with your stay. And yes, this hotel is located a bit outside of Saratoga Springs.

But, in the end, I loved how quiet the hotel was at night, how easy it was to find, the ample amount of on-site parking available to guests, the lovely second-floor patio, and that the entire place was a bit removed from the busy feel of Saratoga itself.

The service was also fantastic, the rooms were exceptionally comfortable, and the entire building had an awesome historic charm about it that you really don’t find in a lot of modern hotels today.

Plus, for the wealth of services and amenities that you receive with your stay, you really can’t beat the beyond reasonable price, which starts at $99 per night for some of the more basic rooms.

That’s why, if you’re searching for a fantastic place to stay just outside of Saratoga Springs, then look no further than the Historic Hotel Broadalbin
